MAUSS BAU: a Christmas sweater for all the MÄUSSE
A construction company from Erlangen ordered 450 knitted Christmas sweaters with spanners and traffic cones in the pattern — worn on a live building site, and still worn a year later.

The project
MAUSS BAU has been building in Erlangen since 1887. At some point MAUSS became the mouse — and the staff have called themselves the MÄUSSE ever since.
In the summer of 2024 they came to us with a wish: custom Christmas sweaters. Not a few for the office, but one for every single person on the payroll. For a workforce spread across many building sites that rarely stands together in one room.
The design
Classic red and green, the MAUSS mark on the chest, Nordic patterns across the yoke, sleeves and hem. And in the middle of those patterns, between snowflakes, poinsettias and fir trees: the things you actually find on their building sites. Crossed spanners. A traffic cone. A barrier. Cogs. A worker with a shovel. The back carries just as much as the front.

And this is what it looks like knitted.
Hold this photograph next to the design above and you will struggle to find a difference. Same layout, same motifs, same colours. Four months later.
That is the whole point of the way we work. The design is not an approximation of what you might get. It is the product itself, drawn before it is knitted.

How it was worn
Two days before Christmas, MAUSS posted from a live building site in Freising near Munich: three colleagues on the scaffolding, MAUSS hard hats on their heads, cranes and rebar behind them — in Christmas sweaters.
Their own words: “This year there was a MAUSS sweater for all the MÄUSSE.” Plus a big thank you to all colleagues for their commitment and team spirit.
The following December MAUSS celebrated at Sportland Erlangen — and the sweaters were there again. A full year after delivery.
Most corporate clothing has a half-life of a few weeks. This sweater made it to a second Christmas.
Why they reordered
The first 400 sweaters arrived in Erlangen on 19 November — well ahead of the end-of-November date MAUSS had given us at the start.
Three weeks later they were back in touch: were another fifty possible, and quickly? They were. Ordered and sent to production the same day, taking the order to 450.
Nothing shows that a sweater has landed better than a company counting up who has not got one yet.
